Rolinda Stotts

As a child growing up on a farm and witnessing the effects of aging and weather on buildings, fences and the natural world, and then as an adult traveling to Italy to view frescos by the Masters and structures hundreds of years old, artist Rolinda has been fascinated by weathered, cracked paint.  As a result, she has developed a proprietary technique termed “Bella-Rotta” (beautiful-broken) in which she applies a stucco-like material to linen, lets it dry, paints on it in multiple layers of oil paint, and then cracks the material. She then adheres the painting to a panel and applies finishing touches, creating a masterful work that simultaneously looks both freshly alive and antiquated.
