Pitar - Jose Aguilar
Pitar is a Mexican artist and industrial designer whose work bridges geometry, nature, and material honesty. What began as an exploration of origami has evolved into a sculptural practice that distills complex forms into quiet, balanced compositions.
Often inspired by a single animal, his process starts with close observation, studying proportions, gestures, and movement to capture the essence rather than the likeness. Each piece becomes a meditation on form, scale, and the subtle tension between precision and emotion.
While living in Jackson Hole, Pitar was deeply influenced by the wildlife of the Mountain West—bison, armadillo, bear, trout, fox, and ram, translating their strength and symbolism into sculpture. Now based in Baja California Sur, he continues this dialogue with nature, shaped by the desert and the sea.
Working with materials such as black lava rock from Popocatépetl, pink and white stone, and bronze, he merges raw texture with refined geometry. His practice reflects both his Mexican heritage and a modern architectural sensibility, drawing inspiration from Isamu Noguchi, Eduardo Chillida, Pedro Reyes, Tadao Ando, and Frank Lloyd Wright.
