Polly Norman has developed a multi-step process in making her pieces. These impressionistic florals are created by photographing flowers through Pennsylvania glass block in black and white. They are then painted with oils. The artist's inspiration is based on her theory that nature's artwork is so evident in flowers. Her challenge is to create a different way of seeing what is a commonly rendered object. She accomplishes this with her unusual technique. Norman says, "Warping images through architectural glass block is a fascination that has led to the creation of my work in abstract photography. Through the refraction, reflection and shadowing the block affords, a sense of motion and mystery evolve."
