"I try to capture the character of the subject I choose to paint. I have found the rhythm and delicacy of black butterflies moving through the reeds of bamboo; cannas against dark leaves of distant trees; the table richly covered with silver platters or wooden bowls, flowers, fruits, vegetables; the anticipation and grace of a ballet dancer; and the movement of the horse. I love moving from a richly colored surface to black and white or to a playfully painted object. The endless combinations of images allow me to concentrate on formal elements to create a painting."
