Charlie Burk

"Traditional paintings are windows…. and I realize that I have been covering those windows for years. Weaving layers of paint on the “window” builds a piece that is now an object rather than a picture… my way of getting to abstraction and liberating a creative effort from the reality of the window. There is a subconscious more than conceptual need to do this, and I give my work meaning in retrospect rather than in planning each painting. The textures and patterns have become a vocabulary, and cause the individual pieces to be connected as parts of the total body of work."
